Team's big day at Gay Meadow

With the Gay Meadow about to disappear forever, many people will be recalling Shrewsbury Town's ups and downs on the historic pitch.

But other local teams had their own triumphs at the Gay Meadow. This is the 1953 Madeley Modern School football team on their own victory day there, when they won the Schools Shield Cup Final.

The photo was loaned to us by Mrs I. Pugh, of Cleobury Mortimer, who says: "My father is one of the team, but over the last 54 years they have all lost touch. Where are they all now? And are they all still alive?

"With the gates soon to close for good on the Gay Meadow, I thought this winning team would be a poignant reminder of the good old days."
