Staggered by course sale talk
I was staggered to read of a move to sell Meole Brace golf course. This is the final proof our councillors have taken leave of their senses.

Obviously, the intended sale is to raise money to offset intended steep rises in council tax - surely this is a Government burden forced upon the council.
If so, why should we sell off this jewel in the crown for a short-term gain.
Forty thousand rounds of golf were played there in the year 2004/05. It is a superb course and well-maintained. It has nearly reached break-even point so the penny pinching Jeremiahs cannot use this as a reason to sell.
The excuse of "we shall build a new course" shows naivety and ignorance. Golf courses can take five to 10 years to become a proper course as greens and fairways take time to grow and settle. It is not like Shrewsbury Town's new football ground, which is ready within a year.
Councillor Charles Armstrong holds the portfolio for leisure - hopefully he will not be tempted by the siren song of "cash now to offset council tax rises". Remember Councillor you are the guardian of some of the family silver - could you live with your conscience if this desecration took place?
Carbon dioxide emissions are very much in the news so the thought of 36 and a half hectares of housing will certainly not help. Remember the trees on the course are removing carbon dioxide as you read this - destroy them we all shall suffer.
The words "Come and take part in sport" are shown prominently on the first tee - someone's sense of humour is rather warped.
