Travesty that colleague lost seat

I greatly enjoyed fighting for Montgomeryshire as the Conservative Assembly candidate and I am writing to thank all those who gave me their help and support over so many months.

I should also like to thank all the other candidates and congratulate the winner, Mick Bates AM.

The Liberal Democrats were very worried by our efforts and had to work very hard for their result.

This is in the interests of democracy and it is a credit to the hard work of many friends and colleagues that Montgomeryshire is now officially a "marginal" constituency with a majority of less than 2,000 votes.

In the end Conservatives secured 6,725 votes overall on the first ballot.

Interestingly, if we add up the first and second ballot votes Conservatives received, our total of 13,916 votes beats the Lib Dem score of 13,815 votes by 101.

Lastly, I should like to comment upon my colleague Glyn Davies. Glyn lost his Mid & West Wales Assembly seat because of the convoluted vagaries of the electoral system we now have in Wales. Glyn is a great Welshman and parliamentarian.

I should like to pay tribute to all Glyn does for Mid & West Wales and it is a travesty that this should happen.
