Tribute has been paid to a man killed in a two-car crash on the A470 between Rhayader and Builth Wells.

Daniel Hughes, 25, from Rhayader, died following the crash between his blue Vauxhall Astra and a silver Peugeot 206 at Doldowlodd shortly after 7pm on Friday.

A Dyfed-Powys Police spokesman said: "At about 7.05pm, police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle road collision on the A470 between Doldowlodd to Rhayader.

"A blue Vauxhall Astra and a silver Peugeot 206 were involved in the collision. As a result one man was conveyed to Hereford Hospital and has since sadly passed away."

Daniel's grieving family paid tribute to him today. They said: "Daniel was a young man who lived and loved life to the full.

"He was popular, well liked by all those who knew him, much remembered for his cheeky grin and after he had taken his time to get to know someone that person would have a loyal friend for life.

"He was brought up in Rhayader, attending the local primary school and then onto Llanidloes Comprehensive.

"He was a very fit and active individual who regularly played rugby for Llanidloes and when playing in his home town of Rhayader it would create much interest and teasing amongst his friends. He also loved mountain biking.

"He was a very hard-working and conscientious, having recently started working for a company from Leicester as a service engineer, travelling throughout Wales, but always coming home, having set up home together with his long-term girlfriend, Emma.

"His family and friends are devastated by the loss of a wonderful son, brother, uncle and devoted boyfriend to Emma, but knowing he died loving life."

Police have launched an appeal for witnesses to the crash.

The spokesman said: "Police are currently keen to speak with the driver of a caravanette and a red vehicle believed to have been in the area at the time of the collision," said the police spokesman.
