Developers, Lioncourt Homes, have unveiled plans to build up to 32 homes in the grounds of the Lady Forester Nursing Home in Much Wenlock.
The proposals are for a pair of one-bedroom homes, eight two-bedroom houses, 13 three-bedroom homes, eight four-bedroom and one five-bedroom house.
Plans to build 63 apartments on the site were refused by Bridgnorth District Council two years ago, but developers say the new scheme would be good for the town.
The application falls within the development boundary of Much Wenlock. It is not clear at the moment how many of the dwellings would be affordable housing.
A report by agents RPS Planning submitted to the council says a new access road would be built off Farley Road.
It adds: "The development proposals will provide a positive contribution to Much Wenlock, while meeting housing need in the local area.
"The redevelopment of this site demonstrates an efficient use of a brownfield site in close proximity to the centre of Much Wenlock."
Bridgnorth District Council will be consider ing the plans in the coming months.
The applicants plan to carry out a consultation exercise with nearby residents in order to inform them of the proposals.
Councillor Dave Gibbon confirmed Much Town Council had seen the plans and that councillors would be discussing them this week.
A separate development of 26 homes is nearing completion in the centre of the town, on a site between High Street and St Mary's Road. Bennett Homes said houses were already being snapped.
