More than 150 vehicles were linked to crimes and motoring offences by police during a five-hour operation on a Shropshire road.

Police were on the A41 near Albrighton monitoring traffic for vehicles used in crime or committing motoring offences.

The Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) operation was staged at Kingswood from 7am to 12pm last Thursday.

More than 1,500 checks were made resulting in more than 150 hits to indicate possible offences, including no tax or vehicle ownership details.

The operation was carried out by officers from the Shrewsbury-based Road Policing Team.

Sergeant Pete Jones said: "We worked with the DVLA and will continue to run these operations as an effective means of tracing drivers who are breaking the law.

"During the session, we arrested a man for breaching his bail conditions, there were 10 endorsables for illegal use of mobile phones, five seatbelt offences and one injury road collision among the matters spotted using the ANPR equipment."
