In our view, the letter from J Whittall (Star, June 28) shows a lack of understanding of the diversity of south Shropshire, as over two-thirds of the Streets Alive performers are UK residents living in Ludlow and Shropshire.

This attitude demonstrates just how important it is that projects like Streets Alive continue to celebrate the diverse cultures that exist in our communities.

Streets Alive is funded by Arts Council England, the European Union Regional Development Fund, Awards for All, Shropshire County Council and South Shropshire District Council. Ludlow Town Council also provides support in kind.

Streets Alive offers a showcase for talent and attracts more than 3,000 people to appreciate what we have to offer here in Ludlow, as well as bringing in substantial money to the town.

If you are interested in sponsoring Streets Alive or would like to take part as a performer or volunteer, contact Paula Redway at Paula@ludlowassemblyrooms.co.uk or on (01584) 813703.

The next round of auditions are on July 8 and the Streets Alive Music, Madness and Mayhem festival is in Ludlow on July 28 from 3pm. Tickets are selling fast for the lgbekun performance by African Dance Company, Osun Arts, on July 28. Call (01584) 878141.
