Witnesses to Monday's crash have suggested there could have been a mechanical problem after watching the driver try to keep the bus under control.

Meanwhile a post mortem took place today on victim Jean Crump, aged 65, of Bentley, to establish the cause of her death.

Pedestrian Mrs Crump was knocked down by the 360 Arriva service at the bus station on Monday morning.

She died later that day. Black Country coroner Robin Balmain is due to open her inquest tomorrow.

She was one of seven casualties, six of whom were taken to hospital for treatment.

A 59-year-old woman remained in a serious condition at Walsall Manor Hospital today while the other four, including the driver of the bus have now been discharged.

The single decker bus hit two pedestrians, a passenger shelter, two cars and a van before crashing into the 51 Travel West Midlands service bound for Birmingham. It finished up heading in the wrong direction in St Paul's Street, a one way route.

Keith Myatt, spokesman for Arriva Midlands, said an inspection of the bus, destined for High Heath and Aldridge, had begun and was ongoing.
