Museum managers hope that as many people as possible will take the opportunity to have a look and respond. There will also be a glimpse of behind-the-scenes work on the collections.
The Museums Service and the rest of the Music Hall project team want to know what everyone, young or old, likes, or dislikes, about museums, their favourite objects and what they would like to see and do in the new museum.
During National Heritage Open Day on September 8 there will be an invitation to the public to work with artists and museums staff on the redevelopment. Museums manager Mary White said: "We are very pleased to be open to the public for the summer.
"We have been doing a lot of behind the scenes work on the collections. We will close again on September 9 but there will be one-off events over the year.
"Rowley's House is not at all an easy building to make accessible and we are definitely over-crowded. The Music Hall gives us a lot of useful space and accessible space and the proposals for that are very exciting."
