Three people were being quizzed by detectives at Malinsgate Police Station in Telford today.

The victim has been named by friends as Stephen Kenny, a hospital porter at Telford's Princess Royal Hospital, who lives in Wellington. His condition was described as "stable" today.

Detectives leading the investigation said the victim was set upon by three men and suffered "serious injuries" between 2.20am and 2.45am yesterday. He was taken to the Princess Royal Hospital by ambulance.

Forensic teams have launched a detailed search of the area between Park Street and Vineyard Road.
