Folk in the Little Wenlock area are a bit het up at the moment about proposals for opencast coal mining at nearby New Works.

There is quite a history of opencast mining in the area, as this picture shows.

It was used in the Shropshire Star of January 14, 1972, along with a story telling how villagers were worried that the "Coalbrookdale road" from Little Wenlock could be hit by a landslip caused by the mining.

The caption said "the road runs top right".
