A man tried to grab hold of a 13-year-old boy and drag him into a car in Oswestry, police said today. Detectives are appealing for information.

It happened at about 8pm yesterday near the telephone kiosk in Hazel Grove.

The teenager managed to shake himself free and run from the scene. Police said he was unhurt, but was left frightened.

The teenager described the man as being white and 6ft 1in tall.

He was also described as being well built, about 40 years old and wearing black clothing at the time of the attempted abduction.

It was thought that the man who tried to grab hold of the teenager may have been driving a black Ford Escort.

Detective Constable David Harris is appealing to the public for information on the incident.

He wants anyone who may have seen the black Ford Escort or the man at about the time of the incident in Hazel Grove, Oswestry, to get in touch.

Mr Harris said: "Police are treating this as a serious matter where a youngster may have been dragged into a car with very serious consquences.

"He shook himself free and ran straight home and told his mother, who immediately rang us.

"Fortunately the boy was not hurt but it was a frightening experience for him.

"I urge anyone who has any information which might assist with our inquiries to please contact me as a matter of urgency."
