Rider killed in collision

A motorcyclist in his 60s was killed when his machine collided with a car near Wolverhampton, closing a busy road for five hours.

The man was riding a Suzuki 600cc towards Tettenhall on the A41 Kingswood Road in Albrighton when he hit a blue Vauxhall Astra travelling towards Newport.

Paramedics, police and fire crews raced to the scene of the crash, which happened at 4.35pm yesterday.

The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman driver of the car was severely shocked but unhurt. The victim has not yet been identified. Shropshire coroner Anthony Sibcy will open an inquest into the latest accident next week.

A post mortem was being carried out at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
