An environmentally friendly car rental company is to open a branch in Shropshire, creating jobs. Go Green Car and Van Rentals will open an office in Whitchurch.

The business is the only one of its kind to run a fleet of low carbon dioxide emission cars and use electricity partly produced from renewable resources.

The company also offsets its carbon footprint by donating one per cent of its annual turnover to schools.

Two jobs are expected to be created initially, with the possibility of more staff being taken on as the branch develops.

Go Green is the brainchild of the Blackhurst family, from Whitchurch, who own the Renault Minute garage. It was set up in Crewe this year. The company has begun loaning cars at new premises in Wrexham Road, but is awaiting planning permission for offices.

Partner David Blackhurst said the company intends to loan hybrid petroleum cars, which are low in emissions, as well as having lots of diesel-engined bigger vehicles.

"We wanted to make a positive contribution," he said.
