A woman was dumped at the side of one of Telford's busiest roads after police believe she was sexually assaulted during a journey from Suffolk.
The woman who lives in Suffolk was discovered in a "distressed state" close to junction 7, Wellington, of the M54 on Sunday morning.
The victim has so far been unable to tell police how she got there but officers are investigating whether she was brought against her will.
She was found between 7.30am and 8am and told police she had been sexually assaulted.
Officers from the borough have travelled to Suffolk to interview the woman and work with local officers.
Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police said: "We know the victim started out the evening before the alleged offence in Suffolk and was sighted in Bury St Edmunds between 1.30am and 2am.
"She has made her way from there to where she was found at the side of the M54 just before 8am. Officers are investigating how she got to Telford and whether she made the journey of her own free will."
Mr Ammonds added: "Police are therefore keen to hear from anyone who may have seen a lone female walking along the road near to this junction sometime between 7.30am and 8am on the day in question."
Police also want to trace a cyclist who may have seen the woman close to junction 7am on Sunday morning.
