The evil that men do
When you've been a journalist for as long as I have it's easy to think you've seen and heard everything, writes our News Blogger David Burrows. But nothing could have prepared me for what was to become Shrewsbury's front page on Friday.
You tend to get somewhat desensitised to stories which can still shock the reader.
But nothing could have prepared me for what was to become Shrewsbury's front page on Friday.
When I took the phone call from the office and they told me what it was I was shocked. The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. So much for professional detachment.
Sadly, editorial policy prevents me from now saying what I really want to, because I'm not allowed to swear on here.
It seems some sick idiot has been plastering a little girl's website blog with horrific death threats.
That would be bad enough. But when you consider the girl in question is Sophie Foxley, the brave Shrewsbury girl who's online tale of her battle against leukaemia has been an inspiration to millions of people around the world it is enough to make your blood boil.
If these people are being "funny" then they need some sort of professional help. Because if that's what passes for amusing in their warped little heads they should be taken off the streets before they harm someone - or harm
themselves seeing as they clearly don't have two brain cells to rub together.
If it is serious then it is one of the most sinister and horrifying things I have ever come across.
The people who know about these things tell me tracing messages like this is not the mammoth task it once was. Let's hope this proves to be the case.
Because if the people behind these messages are caught and have their day in court I feel confident we will move heaven and earth to be there and ensure everyone knows who they are.
