The stunning green evening dress worn by Keira Knightley during a Shropshire movie shoot has been voted the public's favourite film costume of all time.
The satin gown, which she wore at Stokesay Court near Craven Arms during filming of a dinner party scene in award-winning drama Atonement, has beaten a host of vintage screen classics in the poll.
Thousands of film and fashion fans were questioned by Sky Movies and In Style Magazine for the survey, to mark the satellite channel's new "fabulous film costume season", which started today.
Knightley's Atonement costume pushed Marilyn Monroe's famous white "blowing in the wind" dress in The Seven Year Itch into second place, with the little black dress worn by Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast At Tiffany's in third.
Other iconic outfits in the top 10 includes Olivia Newton-John's skintight leather trousers at the climax of 1978 musical Grease, Nicole Kidman's figure-hugging satin corset from Moulin Rouge, and Liza Minnelli's stockings and shorts from her Oscar-winning performance in Cabaret.
The poll was carried out among users of the SkyMovies.com and InStyle.co.uk websites.
Ian Lewis, director of Sky Movies said: "Most of the outfits in the top ten have become film classics, indelibly associated with the actresses who wore them.
"There's no doubt that Keira Knightley's dress in Atonement created a massive stir this year, so it will be interesting to see whether it attains this stand-alone iconic status in years to come."
And Trish Halpin, editor of In Style Magazine, added: "A film's notoriety is definitely increased by a fabulous frock or memorable costume.
"We all remember Marilyn's white dress in The Seven Year Itch or Audrey Hepburn's little black Givenchy dress in Breakfast At Tiffanys.
"Keira Knightley's green satin gown in Atonement looks set to become another classic stylish film moment for the future."
The Fabulous Film Costume Season will start tonight with The English Patient, ending on January 13 with Marie Antoinette.
