A 78-year-old man was distracted at a cashpoint in Telford before having £900 stolen from his account.

A woman of eastern European appearance dropped coins on the floor to get his attention.

Police said that as he bent down to help her, his wallet was stolen.

It is believed that the money was then taken from his account, via the cashpoint, while he was distracted.

The incident happened yesterday at about 10.35am outside Lloyds TSB bank in Telford Town Centre.

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said: "In total it is believed that about £900 was taken during this theft.

"Officers are currently studying CCTV footage to see whether they can identify the offender or offenders in this incident, as they believe that the female may have been working as part of a team.

"The victim is very upset."

The woman is described as having dark hair in a ponytail. She was wearing a black three-quarter length coat, dark blue jeans and was holding a handbag.

Shortly after the theft, she was seen with a man, also of eastern European appearance, who was about 6ft and of medium build.

He was wearing a waist length jacket, dark blue jeans and a pair of dirty white or tan coloured trainers.
