Police quiz man after assault

A man has been arrested in connection with a sexual assault on a seven-year-old boy in Telford, detectives said today. He is currently in custody.

Officers from Telford CID said a man was helping them with their inquiries.

The assault is believed to have occurred on a grassed area between Withywood Drive and Southwater Way in Malinslee - an area known as The Mound.

Detectives yesterday said the boy was led away from a parking area in Withywood on Wednesday.

He was then subjected to a sexual assault.

It was reported at 5.20pm on the same day after the boy returned home in a distressed condition.

Officers said the boy had been left distressed by the incident but physically unharmed and did not require hospital treatment.

House-to-house inquiries were carried out in the area by police officers yesterday afternoon.

Forensic scientists were also brought in to help with the investigations.

Police have also reassured the public that incidents of this type are rare.

Detectives are today continuing to appeal for help from members of the public.

They want to hear from anyone with any information.

Chris Ammonds, police spokesman, said: "Officers from CID in Telford have confirmed that a male has been arrested in connection with the sexual assault that occurred in Malinslee on Wednesday.

"The male is currently in custody and is helping officers with their inquiries."
