Thousands of pounds of damage has been caused at a Wolverhampton church after a car left the road and smashed into a stone wall, spraying debris across the road.
A black MG was found along the side of Holy Trinity Church in Tudor Road, Heath Town, after it appeared to smash into the stone wall belonging to the church and came to a rest.
The front gates of an electricity power station across the road were also damaged, with pieces of car bonnet spread out over the carriageway.
The wrecked car was found abandoned and untaxed by residents today.
An ambulance was not called to the scene and police were first alerted to it at 6am.
The stone wall belonging to the church has partly collapsed. Holy Trinity Church minister David Vestergaard said: "The first I heard about it was when a local resident called me today. It is very bad news for us because the damage will run into thousands of pounds."
Tudor Road resident Dave Hawtin, the local neighbourhood watch co-ordinator, said: "I have maintained for a long time that we need speed-calming measures."
Witnesses should contact Wednesfield police on 0845 113 5000.
