A section of Ludlow's historic Town Wall needs emergency repairs after being damaged by the recent earthquake.

South Shropshire District Council has already arranged to shore up a section behind properties in Upper Linney.

The recent earth tremor dislodged sections of wall, with small areas collapsing across the back yard of 19 Upper Linney.

The wall was examined by council officers and a consultant engineer said protective scaffolding should be erected.

Emergency works are required to anchor the wall, followed by masonry consolidation and repair.

Senior officials at the council, in conjunction with leader Cecilia Motley, have approved the works in the interests of public safety and the protection of property.

The walls are designated as Scheduled Ancient Monuments and English Heritage says they are among the top three per cent in western Europe.
