Detectives today said two men were arrested in connection with the incident but have now been released on bail pending further inquiries.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
Chris Ammonds, spokesman for Telford police, said: "A passing community support officer found the victim - a 34-year-old male - lying on the side of the road with what appeared to be serious facial injuries.
"The victim suffered injuries including a fractured eye socket, a broken arm and a serious wound to his chin and jaw as a result of this alleged attack.
"Telford police are keen to hear from anyone who may be able to help them with their investigation into this incident as they attempt to establish the exact circumstances surrounding it."
