Bogus water workers steal woman's cash
A bogus water worker distracted an 89-year-old Shropshire woman while an accomplice stole cash from her home. The burglary happened in Pitchford Road, Albrighton, about 1pm yesterday.
A bogus water worker distracted an 89-year-old Shropshire woman while an accomplice stole cash from her home. The burglary happened in Pitchford Road, Albrighton, about 1pm yesterday.
A man called at the pensioner's house and asked for access to the bathroom, saying he needed to fix a washing machine further up the road.
While he distracted the woman, a second man got in to the house and stole money from the living room.
The first man is white, about 5ft 9ins, thin, clean shaven and wearing a light plain shirt, light trousers and a tank top.
Police investigating the incident are appealing for witnesses or other information which might help in tracing the offenders.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Lee Holehouse said: "While one offender was in the bathroom with the lady, a second entered the premises and stole a quantity of cash from the living room.
"I would appeal for any information, especially if these two men or a suspicious vehicle were spotted in the vicinity at around 1pm yesterday.
"Strangers calling at people's homes without prior appointment should not be allowed inside under any pretext.
"If there is any doubt, keep them out and call the police who will be able to check whether the caller is genuine."
