Police say it appears that the woman may have lost consciousness during the alleged incident as a member of the public came to her aid and helped her up off the ground. Detective Sergeant Billy Scott, from CID in Telford, appealed for people with information about the incident to contact police
"The investigation is at an early stage and we are keen to establish the exact circumstances surrounding this incident.
"We would like to hear from anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in Wellington town centre between 1.30am and 3.30am this morning.
"Anyone who believes that they may have information that could be useful to the investigation is asked to contact Telford Police on 08457 444 888."
