A Mid Wales disc jockey who supplied cocaine and cannabis to his circle of friends while heavily involved in the club scene has been jailed for a year.

James Michael Clegg had, since his arrest a year ago, changed his lifestyle and had stopped going to nightclubs where he had started taking cocaine himself, Mold Crown Court was told.

But the judge said the offences were too serious to justify a suspended sentence and Clegg would have to go to jail immediately.

Clegg, 22, of Stone Street, Newtown, admitted possessing cocaine and cannabis with intent to supply on the basis that he supplied a small circle of friends who were already users.

The Recorder Lord Kingsland QC said he appreciated that Clegg had since changed his life, now no longer went out, and remained at home with his pregnant partner.

"However, these are very serious offences," he said.

"If a large number of people in our society copied you, we would be faced with social breakdown. It is right that society condemns what you have done."

A total of £520 was confiscated under The Proceeds of Crime Act.

Mr Andrew Clarke, prosecuting, said police seized cocaine with an estimated street value of up to £1,400 and cannabis worth £150 from Clegg's home.

For Clegg, Mr Oliver King said he had no previous convictions. At the time he had been a DJ and drugs had been part of the club scene.

He had started taking drugs himself and had then started supplying a small number of friends.

Clegg had disassociated himself from that scene, had a new job and stayed home with his pregnant partner.
