County projects to share £247,000
Eight community projects in Powys are set to get a share of a £247,000 cash bonanza.
The Awards for All Wales Grants Programme is giving a boost to 70 community-based projects across Wales as part of a massive project to revitalise communities, bring people together and improve quality of life.
It is one of the quickest ways for local good causes to secure lottery money.
Canolfan Owain Glyndwr Cyf in Machynlleth will get £4,900 to spend on a project to produce an interactive timeline and text display about Owain Glyndwr.
The last native Prince of Wales, he instigated an ultimately unsuccessful but long-running revolt against English rule of Wales.
Other grants include: Montgomeryshire Geneological Society (£800), Cylch Ti a Fi playgroup in Buttington and Trewern near Welshpool (£1,045), Cylch Ti A Fi playgroup at Ysgol Rhiwbechan, Tregynon, near Newtown (£1,680), Conolfan Gymunedol in Dolanog near Welshpool (£2,073), Llanfechain Horticultural Show and Sports Association (£3,708), Disability Powys (£5,000) and Play Montgomeryshire (£5,000).
Bel Crewe, project manager for Awards For All Wales, said: "The programme is concrete proof that small amounts of money can have a big impact. We are continually delighted with the range of creative projects which we are able to support."
