Church sale sunk by mines discovery

The sale of a Shropshire church hall has fallen through for a second time following the discovery of two mine shafts, it was revealed today.

Oakengates Church Hall, off Holyhead Road, which is on the market with a price tag of £155,000, was in the process of being bought by a developer.

The Reverend Matthew Stafford today said he was pleased when a developer was interested in the hall as the sale would provide cash needed to revamp Oakengates Holy Trinity Church, but was "bitterly disappointed" by the latest delay in the sale.

Mr Stafford said: "The sale of the church hall has fallen through because they have found two mine shafts.

"It's so disappointing we get a buyer and then this happens.

"I don't know quite what's happening now."

It originally went on the market last summer, but the sale collapsed and it was put back on the market.
