Dog walker rescued after slope fall

A man who was out walking his dog had to be rescued by specialist ambulance and fire crews from a rocky outcrop 50ft above the ground after he slipped down a steep slope in Telford.

Emergency services were called out shortly after 10pm yesterday after the man fell trying to retrieve the dog in the Lloyds Coppice wooded area behind Birbeck Drive, Madeley.

Firefighters were first on the scene and they requested help from West Midlands Ambulance Service.

Two ambulances and an incident support officer were initially sent, followed by the hazardous area response team comprising three specifically trained paramedics and a number of specialist vehicles.

West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray MacGregor said crews were told the man had started going down the slope after his dog went down it but then he had slipped, fallen about 20ft and then tumbled down a much steeper, 12ft drop.

A second man who was had been with him also went down the slope to try to help.

The ambulance service's HART Team Leader Dave Levesley said: "He was then taken to Princess Royal Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

The second man was also checked over but was uninjured.
