Police are trying to trace several motorists who helped the 16-year-old youth after he was assaulted.

The teenager was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital after being knocked to the ground, punched and kicked.

Constable Colin McCracken said the assault happened at about 8.10pm on Monday in Brookhouse Road.

The victim was with two girls walking towards the junction with Middleton Road when a group of youths – believed to be three males and a female – on the opposite side of Brookhouse Road crossed over.

"It's believed one of the group, or possibly all of them, set upon the 16-year-old, who was punched and kicked to the ground where he was further kicked about the face," Constable McCracken said.

He said three motorists were thought to have assisted the teenager after the assault.
