A reveller was kicked unconscious as he walked home from a charity barn dance in Llanfyllin.
Police have now appealed for witnesses after the incident which happened in a lane near the town on Friday night.
The victim had attended a Young Farmers' Club barn dance at Green Hall Farm and was making his way home when he was attacked.
Constable Phil Youens said: "He was attacked and knocked to the floor and repeatedly kicked until unconscious by a group of males."
Police are also investigating reports of an assault at the event itself, which attracted about 500 people.
Constable Youens said a young woman was attacked on two separate occasions by teenagers.
He said it was believed those responsible for the attacks were youngsters from the Oswestry area.
Constable Youens said: "The incidents occurred in and around the dance floor. Llanfyllin police would like to appeal for witnesses to come forward and inquiries are continuing."
However, event organisers said they were isolated incidents and the evening had been a great success.
Mr Peter Lewis, whose family home is Green Hall Farm, said the majority of those at the event had been well behaved.
Anyone who can help police with their inquiries is asked to call Constable Youens on 101.
