Boy racers will be driven out of Welshpool by the overnight closure of one of the town's car parks, it has been claimed.
Welshpool Town Council says action is now being taken to solve the "boy racing" problem at Maesydre car park.
Councillors say young drivers have been meeting on the council-owned car park, which could now be closed, to race.
Robert Robinson, council clerk, said the issue had sparked a lot of concern.
He said: "The problem has been ongoing for months with young drivers driving around the car park in a very dangerous manner and we as a council are very concerned about it.
"We've decided we have no other option but to think about closing Maesydre car park during certain times of the day to try and stop this from happening again."
He said the proposal to lock the car park would go before councillors at the next council meeting on June 3.
He said: "The recreation committee think we should start using the lock and chain. We propose to open the car park between 8am and to close it at 9am and to open the car park at 3pm and close it at 6.30pm."
