Man, 54, killed in road accident

A Telford man died when his motorbike was involved in a collision with a car on a road in Cheshire.

The 54-year-old was riding his bike on the northern outskirts of Crewe when the accident happened on Saturday shortly before 2.45pm.

The victim, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident involving a blue Toyota Yaris.

Police today said it happened at the junction of Broughton Road and Parker's Road.

Constable Peter Benningwood, of the Crewe Specialist Investigation Unit, said: "He was travelling along Broughton Road towards Parker's Road heading out of Crewe.

"He has emerged on to Parker's Road where the collision has taken place with him and a car, which was travelling from the direction of Warmingham village."

The motorcyclist is understood to have travelled with family to the Crewe area where he had relatives. There was no-one with him at the time of the accident.

The 44-year-old female driver of the Toyota from Sandbach, Cheshire, suffered slight injuries and was treated at Leighton Hospital and later released. Her passengers did not need hospital treatment.

Police closed the semi-rural road for about three hours while accident investigation work was carried out.
