A record number of pilots have also booked places for a two-day large model aircraft extravaganza at a RAF Cosford this weekend. The rally which is held today and tomorrow has attracted 140 pilots from across the UK. This year's show also boasts a new display of World War One models from a team known as Dawn Patrol. The second Bridgnorth Steam Rally, which started last night and runs until Sunday, could attract up to 8,000 visitors. More than 350 traction engines, tractors, vintage machinery, classic cars and motorcycles, commercial and military vehicles will be on show and parade during the three-day festival in Severn Park. Organisers of today's Newport Show are promising a special celebration to remember. The event is known as the county's premier one-day agricultural show and is held in the Chetwynd Deer Park.

A record number of pilots have also booked places for a two-day large model aircraft extravaganza at a RAF Cosford this weekend.

The rally which is held today and tomorrow has attracted 140 pilots from across the UK.

Robert Robinson, event organiser, said this year's event was set to include displays from the RAF Falcons parachute display team and the Battle of Britain memorial flight.

About 3,500 horticultural fans were also expected to flock to the two-day Wem Sweet Pea Show.

It marks the anniversary of hybridist Henry Eckford, who developed the sweet pea while living in Wem.

And thousands of women of all ages will be at The West Mid Showground in Shrewsbury tomorrow for the annual 5km Cancer Research Race For Life.

Sarah Roberts, from Oswestry, will be taking part dressed as Spotina the dog - mascot of The New Saints Football Club.

Her brother Paul is the official Spot the dog mascot for the Oswestry club with Sarah occasionally standing in for him as "Spotina" at home games.

The Three Furnaces pub in Madeley, Telford was today bracing itself for a 12-hour Big Brother Style event in aid of Telford Gay Pride which is held on August 9.

There was set to be a number of challenges mimicking Channel 4's reality TV show.
