The family of a 24-year-old woman who died in a car crash in the county today unveiled plans to hold a charity ball in her memory and to raise cash for her two-year-old son.
Hairdresser Jodie Kirkham, of Brookfield, Bayston Hill, near Shrewsbury, died at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital eight days after the car she was in left the road and collided with trees in Hubert Way in the town on March 30.
Today her brother Craig and his wife Nicky, from Bayston Hill, paid tribute to Jodie and announced a charity ball will be held on November 6.
It would have been her 25th birthday.
The event, which they are organising with their friend Carrie McDermott, will raise cash for Jodie's son Callum, who is being cared for by his grandparents Ann and Colin, and for the Intensive Therapy Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, where she fought for her life.
Craig, 26, said: "We just want to say a big 'thank you' to intensive care for everything they did for her and to keep her memory alive. It would have been her 25th birthday so it's something special to the family as well."
Jodie, who also leaves a sister called Stacey, was born in Shrewsbury and lived in Bayston Hill for much of her life, attending Longmeadow School and Meole Brace School. She had been a hairdresser for about nine years and was working at SY1 and SY2 salons at the time of her death.
Craig said his sister: "She always had a smile on her face. She enjoyed going out with her friends and was really family-orientated.
"She loved her nieces and nephews – my kids – and always spent lots of time with them.
"She had a heart of gold and always put everybody else before herself."
Nicky, 27, said it was hoped that the cash raised for Callum would be able to provide a trip to Lapland for him this Christmas.
The ball will be held at the Lord Hill Hotel in Abbey Foregate at 7.30pm on November 6.
Tickets are priced at £20 and can be bought by calling 07779 458684, (01743) 874889, SY1 on (01743) 233410 or SY2 on (01743) 355534.
