A pedestrian was left fighting for his life after a hit-and-run crash in Leominster.
The 26-year-old man suffered serious head injuries after being struck in the early hours of yesterday, police said.
Pete Butcher, police spokesman, said: "It appears a red Rover 420i car, travelling off Mill Street roundabout into Broad Street, collided with the kerb and a pedestrian walking on the pavement.
"The vehicle did not stop at the scene and made off."
He added: "The pedestrian was taken to Hereford County Hospital with serious head injuries and is currently in a critical, but stable condition."
Police said the car was later traced and a man arrested in connection with the incident.
Mr Butcher said the man had been interviewed and released on police bail while further inquiries were being carried out.
Broad Street was closed for several hours following the crash at 2.45am as police examined the scene.
Mr Butcher said police were "anxious to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the red Rover 420i travelling through Leominster beforehand".
