The speed limit looks set to be slashed on a Shropshire road after a mother-of-one died following a car crash. Hairdresser Jodie Kirkham, of Brookfield, Bayston Hill, Shrewsbury, died after the car she was in left the road.

The crash happened in Hubert Way, Herongate, Shrewsbury, on March 30.

Now Shropshire Council has set aside funding to cut the speed limit along Hubert Way from 40mph to 30mph.

Jodie's brother Craig Kirkham, 26, today said: "I think it would be a good idea as the road is in a built-up residential area. It's quite busy as you get all the people coming and going out of the estate using it all the time.

"I think reducing the limit would help to make the road safer but it would also be an idea to narrow it because that way people realise they have to take it easier because it wouldn't be as wide as it is now."

Alice Dilly, Shropshire Council principal engineer for road safety, said: "This 30mph limit has been put forward following a route study carried out on Ellesmere Road last year.

"It is proposed to extend the existing 30mph limit on Ellesmere Road to incorporate the Hubert Way junction. These proposals are currently under informal consultation with the local councillor, police and Shrewsbury Town Council.

"Following any comments received, the proposals will be formally advertised with a view to implementing them later this year."

The move would see Ellesmere Road adopt a 30mph speed limit for most of its length.
