A bid was launched to save a pair of love-struck swans from death after they became entangled in fishing line on a pool in Telford.
The two-hour operation yesterday plucked the male mate to safety from the pool off Castlefields Way, Madeley.
The female, however, eluded all efforts to rescue her and the operation was due to resume again today.
RSPCA animal collection officer Elaine Williams said the charity was "disgusted" about the "needless suffering" caused to the swans.
