Robbers kicked down the front door of a Telford home and demanded money from two terrified sisters who were watching television inside.

But the two bungling burglars fled the home in Dawley after a third man ran inside and said: "We have got the wrong house."

Police said today two black men, who covered their faces and wore baseball caps and hoodies, smashed through the front door of a house in The Hollow at about 7.30pm on Friday.

They confronted the two women, aged 40 and 39.

The two men fled along with the third man, also black and wearing a baseball cap and hoodie, after realising their mistake.

Detectives said a brown handbag, a small amount of cash and a black Samsung mobile phone were taken.

The two women were not hurt but have been described as "extremely shaken" by the incident.

Detective Terry Homer, of Telford CID, who is leading the investigation, said: "The two women were clearly traumatised and this was a very distressing incident for them.

"Our current efforts are targeted towards tracing any witnesses to this crime. I am aware that at least three people, two men and a woman all aged in their 20s, were stood at the Worcester Road bus stop and I would urge them to contact police as soon as possible.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who may have found a discarded black handbag, brown purse or a black Samsung phone.

"The handbag belonging to one of the ladies had her birth certificate and pictures of her children inside."

Detectives believe the three men were in their 20s or 30s and fled initially on foot, before possibly driving away later in a blue car.
