A Shrewsbury road which serves as a gateway from the north to the town centre is to be shut overnight twice this month for resurfacing works for the first time in 25 years.
Whitchurch Road in Harlescott will be closed between 4.30pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday and then again on September 27 and 28.
The anti-skid surfacing on the approach to the traffic signals near the Morrisons supermarket will also be renewed.
Gary Rogers, Shropshire Council's highways manager for central, said the works were essential and apologised for any inconvenience.
During the road closure traffic will be diverted via Whitchurch Road, Featherbed Lane, Sundorne Road and vice versa. Access will be maintained for residents.
