Plans to redevelop Cleobury Mortimer fire station are under consideration after an application was lodged for an extension, to carry out internal alterations and refurbishment.

Andrew Kelcey, head of resources for Shropshire Fire and Rescue, said: "It's quite a major refurbishment with an extension as well.

"The station was built in the 1950s and hasn't had any money spent on it since then so we're bringing it up to our standards. We've done about 17 stations in the last five years and this is one of the last ones."

A spokesman for Shropshire Council said: "We have received a planning application from Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority. This application is still in the consultation period. Anybody wanting to comment on the proposals has until October 2."
