Work on a multi-million pound livestock market for Welshpool will be completed next month, it has been revealed.
It will mean the new market, on a site just off the A483 at the Buttington Cross roundabout, a mile north of the town, will be opened on November 6.
The market is re-locating to the site from its current location in Mill Lane and will free up land for a major retail development. Work began at the site in November last year.
Robert Robinson, Welshpool Town Council clerk, said work on the site was set to be completed by the end of October. He said: "Developers on the Smithfield site are aiming for an October 30 finish and the official opening is scheduled to take place on November 6.
"The completion will allow work on the one-way system through Welshpool and the retail development can start after Christmas.
"It should all be completed by the end of 2010 and then we can move on with the rest of it."
The retail side of the development in the town is expected to create up to 400 jobs and would mean a huge boost to the town's economy.
