Darwin music winner revealed
The winner of a young composer competition, who will hear their piece performed at the inauguration of a sculpture built to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Charles Darwin's birth, was announced today.

Shropshire Council has named Ben Powell Davies as the winning composer of a fanfare for the Darwin Memorial Quantum Leap, the public art statue which stands on the banks of the River Severn.
His winning composition will be performed by brass players from Shrewsbury School at 4pm on Thursday when the sculpture will be officially dedicated.
The event will be led by Randal Keynes, Charles Darwin's great, great-grandson. Ben will also be awarded £250 by Whittingham Riddell Chartered Accountants.
John Moore, head of music at Shrewsbury School, said: "Ben had produced what can only be described as a Darwinian piece of striking originality."
