Two Shropshire women today appeared on ITV's This Morning for a makeover ahead of meeting the Queen.

Former land girls Ella Kimball Evans, 83, from Criftins, near Ellesmere, and Nora Morgan, 81, from Ellesmere, will be meeting the Queen at Buckingham Palace tomorrow.

The pair helped feed the nation in the aftermath of World War Two by toiling in the fields of Shropshire and North Wales with the Land Army.

They appeared on This Morning today for a makeover by top stylist Charles Worthington. They were also due to be made up and kitted out with new clothes.

They will meet Her Majesty when about 90 specially invited guests - two from each county - visit the royal household.

They travelled down to London by first class train yesterday and Mrs Evans said she had bought them an autograph book each. When Government officials called Mrs Morgan to say she and a companion had been chosen to receive the honour she initially thought it was a hoax call.
