Venue Saints FC were left stranded on their way to a Shropshire Sunday Cup tie - when their minibus broke down en route.
The Saints, from Oswestry, were travelling to face The Edge in Market Drayton when they broke down outside Whitchurch at the weekend.
And, in a further twist, they would have found an empty ground had they made it to Greenfields, where The Edge play - because the hosts had never planned to enter the competition.
"We didn't receive confirmation of the fixture from them beforehand," Venue secretary Graeme Kirkham admitted. "But we knew where they play so we were on our way.
"We'd got just outside of Whitchurch when the minibus broke down and it took more than hour to get someone out to us."
Shropshire FA officials are now seeking clarification before deciding the next step - with Venue Saints likely to progress by virtue of a walkover if The Edge confirm they do not want to play in the cup.
