Driver still 'seriously ill' in hospital

The funeral of an Oswestry teenager who died when the car he was travelling in left the road and crashed into a tree was due to be held today.

Grant McCulloch, of Balmoral Close, died on October 24 after the crash on the Gobowen Road.

His funeral service was due to be held at 2.30pm today at St Oswald's Parish Church, Oswestry, followed by cremation at Emstrey Crematorium, Shrewsbury. Mr McCulloch worked at Moreton Garage, Gledrid, as an apprentice mechanic.

The car was being driven by 20-year-old Scott Muir, who was taken to Wrexham Maelor Hospital suffering from serious multiple injuries.

He was later transferred to Liverpool's Walton Hospital where he remains in the intensive care unit. He was described today as being "seriously ill".

Police say that the blue Peugeot 306 was travelling away from the town when it left the road and hit a tree shortly before 9.30pm.

A police spokesperson said: "We are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision or who saw the car being driven beforehand, to please contact Oswestry police station on 0300 333 3000."

Many floral tributes have been laid at the scene in memory of Mr McCulloch. His family and friends also paid tributes to him describing him as "a good son, full of fun and with some really great friends".

Mr McCulloch had an older sister, Sophie and a brother, Bradley.

Lance Collings, owner of Moreton Garage Services where Mr McCulloch worked as a mechanic, has said he would be sadly missed and was well respected by all his friends and colleagues at the garage.
