River levels remained stable across Shropshire and Mid Wales today but there was a new weather threat on the horizon as forecasters warned of heavy rain and possibly even sleet on high ground tonight.
Several roads across the region remained closed, with Bridgnorth the latest town to be affected as the peak river level moved south.
In Shrewsbury, Frankwell Main and Riverside car parks were the only car parks still to remain closed today. Shropshire Council said it was monitoring the river level and would reopen the car parks as soon as possible.
But spokesman Gary Parton said: "The car parks will not be opened if there is any risk to people's safety. All other surface car parks in Shrewsbury remain open and the Park and Ride sites are all operating."
The Environment Agency said flood warnings still in operation included the River Severn in Shrewsbury and the Severn between Buildwas and Coalpoart including Ironbridge, as well as on the Lower Dee Valley from Llangollen to Chester, skirting the north Shropshire border.
Flood watches are in operation for the whole of the River Severn in Shropshire, the Severn Vyrnwy Confluence and the Upper Severn in Powys.
John Warner, Shropshire Star weatherman, said Shropshire and the Midlands could get up to an inch of rain tonight with the possibility of localised flooding in areas not previously affected.
