Firefighters battled for about 40 minutes to cut away the roof and side of the vehicle so the man could be treated by paramedics ahead of him being transferred to hospital.
Mark Smith, crew manager at Market Drayton Fire Station, said: "One vehicle had been in collision with a lamp pole.
"We had to remove the roof and side of the car as there was some concern about a head injury at one stage."
No other vehicle was involved in the accident.
Firefighters from Market Drayton, Hodnet, Shrewsbury and Wellington went to the scene and stood down just before 4am.
Police are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to call them on 0300 3333000.
