Police could be one step closer to uncovering the killer of a Shropshire man murdered 15 years ago after they passed on test results to prosecutors to decide the next stage of the investigation.

The major development comes after the body of Trevor Bradley, 53, of Sidney Road, Ludlow, was exhumed earlier this year for tests after police said significant information had come to light regarding his death.

Yesterday police passed an advice file to the Crown Prosecution Service which will decide what further action should be taken.

Mr Bradley was found dead in the footwell behind the front seats of his burned-out Vauxhall Nova in 1994, which had been left in a field close to Melverley, between Oswestry and Shrewsbury.

Detective Inspector Andy Parsons today said: "The test results are back and we have passed a file to CPS. We cannot give out any further information at this time."

Decision

Mr Bradley's brother today welcomed the news.

Mickey Bradley, said: "We are glad that things are moving forward. Andy Parsons informed me that they had handed a file to the prosecution service. I understand that it's 15 folders and the CPS will be looking at it in the new year and a decision will be made.

"We are very glad. It's been a very long time and it's been very hard at times, but in this second investigation they've been more positive than when it first happened. They've paid us visits, made telephone calls and kept us informed."

Mr Bradley lived in Ludlow and had strong connections with Shrewsbury, particularly the Monkmoor area.

He was also well known in Leominster where he regularly visited a bingo hall.

No one has ever been charged with Mr Bradley's murder.

The investigation into his death was reopened two years ago when a £10,000 reward was posted for information about his death.

His remains were exhumed at Henley Road Cemetery in Ludlow in July.

Det Insp Parsons said continuing investigations had revealed new information and police had decided it was necessary to take this unusual step to further their inquiries.

Tests were carried out on Mr Bradley's body before it was returned to its final resting place.
