Driver of car hurt in smash with lorry

A teenager was today airlifted to hospital with head injuries after a car collided with a tractor in Shropshire.

He was taken to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire in Stoke-on-Trent after the crash in Cherrington, near Child's Ercall a few miles from Newport.

The collision, which happened just after midday, left the road closed for more than two hours.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said it sent two rapid response vehicles, and an ambulance. Fire crews also attended. Police confirmed the road was still closed this afternoon while they carried out an investigation into the crash.

Meanwhile, a man in his 30s was taken to hospital after his car ended up in a ditch when it was involved in a smash with a lorry, leaving a road in north Shropshire closed for several hours.

The incident happened just after 3am today on the A41 at Prees Heath, near the Midway Truck Stop Cafe.

The driver of the Jaguar car suffered a neck injury.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: "The driver of the car, a man in his late 30s, had a neck injury and lacerations to his head.

"He was immobilised with the use of a spinal board and neck collar and his head wounds were dressed before he was taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further assessment and treatment."

The driver of the lorry was not injured.
