Police are linking the disappearance with finding the body of another man, believed to be that of Mr Corbett's elder brother John, who was in his late 70s.

The body was found by police at an end terrace cottage at The Nabb, St Georges, which the brothers had shared for more than 50 years.

A red car parked at Cressage was connected to The Nabb property, police said today.

Carol Meeson, who is believed to have been the last person to speak to Ted Corbett before his disappearance, said he had handed her an envelope containing keys at her St Georges home and told her he was going to "end it all" yesterday shortly after 9am.

Mrs Meeson, who has lived in The Nabb for 45 years, said she had tried to stop her neighbour, who is believed to be in his mid-60s, but he got into his car and drove off.

She then contacted police and officers discovered the body in the house.

Police are treating the death as unexplained and said they were not looking for anyone else in connection with it.

Mrs Meeson added: "It's hard to believe. They were very private people and kept themselves to themselves. They were friendly with all the people on The Nabb."

Telford police spokesman Chris Ammonds said the search of the River Severn had resumed this morning.

The home where the Corbett brothers lived remained sealed off today and floral tributes were left at the door.

Bruce Acton, of the Severn Area Rescue Association, said today nine of their volunteers with two boats had been drafted in to assist police with the search of the river.
